Snapchat worker falls for a phishing scam.

Snapchat worker falls for phishing scam

A snapchat employee opens an email from who he thought was the CEO Evan Spiegel asking for payroll and ex-payroll worker information. Little did he know that it was actually a hacker posing as the CEO. Since given the information, many current and ex employees are now at risk for identity fraud. Snapchat made a public apology in a blog post on Sunday.

Within hours, they said the problem was "isolated" and then reported it to the FBI. Thankfully the server was not breached and no user info was given out, but as stated earlier, many employees have had there identity compromised.

As a way to say sorry, Snapchat is providing the people who were affected by this two years of identity theft and insurance. They are also tightening the training programs. A phishing scam is simple. A person acting as if they are someone important, and if they pull it off, they got the keys to the kingdom.

On the start of 2014, Snapchat had its worst hack. Millions of user information and pictures were made public. Ever since then, Snapchat has kept a tight leash on their info and hopefully that stays that way.
